MOUNTAIN PEOPLE

ALTER- People

Unlike many residencies, in which participants work in isolation, ALTER- considers three groups as key to its success — the ALTER- residents (Sonandes in 2022), the Val d’Anniviers community, and researchers from the University of Lausanne’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (CIRM). Our neighbors have helped develop the residency, will collaborate with Sonandes in the research, and will participate in the weekly sharings. CIRM researchers, who focus on the economic, cultural, climatic, and other aspects of climate change, will serve as guest contributors and participants in the field research and public events.

Sonandes (2022 Resident Group)
Sonandes, based in Bolivia, brings together creators to research, make, and exhibit projects on sound art and the study of the senses. Since 2014, it has produced a variety of projects, including an international biennial of sound art that explores the interactions among contemporary sound practices, urban sites, and collaborative creation; a residency program; experimental laboratories that culminate in public exhibitions; and publications documenting their creative process. Sonandes  is committed to forging a culture of listening.
