A WORD FROM THE PARTICIPANTS
The landscapes keep the traces of natural or human events that have accumulated over time. The rocks in the Moiry valley date back 500 million years and document the opening and closing of an ancient ocean, the Tethys, between the African and European continents. The Quaternary glaciations, in particular the last one which reached its maximum 25,000 years ago, have shaped the profile of the valley. The glaciers left numerous traces of their passage when they retreated. And the Moiry glacier, easily accessible from the lake, allows us to observe the rapid melting due to current climate change. The hydroelectric installations have also left their mark on the landscape: the dam, of course, but also other, less visible features. As for the vegetation, it quickly takes over from the glacial phenomena as the glacier retreats. Five CIRM researchers offer a combined reading of the landscape and the dynamic processes that shape it, through the prism of disciplines as varied as geology, geomorphology, glaciology and biogeography. You will be taken on a journey through time of more than 500 million years, which should make us think about the relationship between humans and nature in the period of energy and climate transitions we are experiencing.

Cor des Alpes & cloches de vache
A collaboration between the Cor des Alpes and Sonandes for a composition of pre-industrialization sounds based on a dialogue between the standing tones from Cor des Alpes and the recordings of the cloches during the transhumance
Contemporary sounds of the valley
The development of the dam created a new hertzian sphere on the valley, motor sounds, machines and ski resorts that transformed the valley into a tourist industrial sector. This resonant hertzian sphere brought new sounds to the inhabitants, modifying the immaterial space until today. The sound piece brings a composition with industrial sounds that were not present and now remain in resonance in the space.
