A WORD FROM THE PARTICIPANTS
Cottier is part of history and looks to the future. It’s a place where tradition meets experimentation. This is true not only for the cultivation and use of medicinal plants, but also for other, more surprising crops grown at an altitude of almost 2000 meters. What guides us? To preserve and rediscover the essential knowledge of our ancestors, and to combine it with the knowledge of today, in order to imagine and prepare for the world of tomorrow. Weaving links with all living beings in a sensitive and supportive community.

Fieldwork is not a term and a context of negotiation that happens ‘elsewhere’. Rather, it is a dynamic and changeable practice, grounded on messy negotiation with great discursive material potential. Fieldwork is about being open to noticing it all. Working through the contrasting combinations of my body as artist and ’the field’, seeing and working through how we come together temporarily as a collective body and what happens in that encounter and space.

How can we make global warming and the challenges it poses tangible? Are there clues right before our eyes? Alpine plants and their uses are part of the heritage of the Alpine valleys. Delving into their history and our relationship with their uses gives us a different reading of the landscape and its evolution.
Along the way and at the Alpage de Cottier, we’ll discover the amazing stories of mountain plants. Sharing practical, artistic and scientific experiences will enable us to question our relationship with the plant world, its evolution and our common future.
