Meredith Root-Bernstein
Meredith Root-Bernstein is a researcher at the CNRS, based at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. Her research interests include degradation and restoration ecology, rewilding, ethnography of human-environment relationships, local ecological knowledge, governance and policy. She mainly works in central Chile, northern Italy, and southern Africa. She is an associate member of TSOEG — Temporal School of Experimental Geography.

Meredith’s first publication, while doing a master’s degree in animal behaviour, was in the art-science journal Leonardo. Thus began a long engagement between art and science. Following a second masters degree in conservation, and a PhD in ecology, she began a series of postdocs working with geographers and anthropologists. She co-founded the NGO Kintu in Chile to pursue the vision of socio-ecological rewilding to restore central Chilean landscapes.
Since moving to Paris in 2017 she has collaborated regularly with various artists and completed a diploma in artistic experimentation and research. She also teaches in the GEODesign masters degree at Eindhoven Design Academy and collaborates with designers on various projects.
